Sarawak leap to second spot in Premier League

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak jumped to second place in the Premier League after a 1- 0 win over MIFA FC at Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya on Monday.

Bobby Gonzales became the team’s hero with a 41st minute goal which was good enough for Ian Andrew Gillian’s boys to collect three points.

Both teams showed a balanced game early in the first half with exchanges of attacks but failed to score any goal.

In the second half of the match, The Indians attempted to secure an equaliser but the Sarawak defensive lineup was invincible and thwarted every attack and no goals were scored by either team for Sarawak to record the win.

Meanwhile, in another Premier League match, Felcra FC stretched their team’s unbeaten record to six matches when they edged UKM FC 2-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium.

The first goal of the match came after imported Felcra FC striker Anselmo Da Silva powerfully headed in his team-mate Endrick Parafita’s pass in the 40th minute to put The Fighters ahead 1- 0 just before half-time.

Starting in the second half, both teams spruced up their game and racheted up their attacks on the opponents’ goals.

UKM FC’s equaliser came in the 54th minute when their imported player, Sein Nam headed the ball from outside the penalty box following a badly cleared corner kick by the Felcra FC defenders.

Shaken by the goal, Felcra FC redoubled their assaults and Anselmo almost added to the score during a one-on-one situation with the UKM FC goalkeeper, but his kick was easily read and parried by Mohamad Khari Hassan.

The winning goal Felcra FC sought came through Anselmo, who jumped high to head in the ball from a corner kick in the 74th minute. — Bernama
