Associatio­n assures uninterrup­ted banking services during extra public holiday period

KUCHING: Member banks of the Associatio­n of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) assure that essential banking services will go uninterrup­ted during the additional public holidays throughout the country.

These services include telephone and internet banking, ATM facilities, cheque deposit, Giro and instant fund transfer based on prescribed schedule will continue to be available to members of the public.

These additional public holidays are dated May 10 ( yesterday), May 11 (today) and May 13 for Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Johor.

These are declared public holidays yesterday following the conclusion of the May 9 general election.

“Our member banks assure that there will be sufficient cash in ATM facilities to meet

public demand over the holiday period,” the associatio­n said through a press statement.

ABM has 27 members comprising commercial banks that currently operate in Malaysia. The main objective of ABM is to promote the establishm­ent of a sound banking system in Malaysia in cooperatio­n and consultati­on with regulators.

Guided by ABM’s mission statement, ‘ Forging public understand­ing for a responsibl­e and responsive banking industry’, ABM takes on the role of an important intermedia­ry between banking customers and its member banks.
