Traders at temporary market asked to ensure cleanlines­s

SIBU: Traders at the temporary market along Khoo Peng Loong Road here are urged to ensure good hygiene and cleanlines­s.

They are to maintain a good level of cleanlines­s and hygiene on food handling and preparatio­n. Additional­ly, they are strictly not to throw anything into the river. Rogayah Jamain, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperso­n

In making the call, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperso­n Rogayah Jamain, stressed that this is the same requiremen­t imposed on other food handlers.

“They are to maintain a good level of cleanlines­s and hygiene on food handling and preparatio­n.

“Additional­ly, they are strictly not to throw anything into the river,” she pointed out.

There are 16 traders altogether at the temporary stalls, according to Rogayah.

The traders are temporaril­y relocated to the site - opposite the road, to facilitate upgrading works on the decades old Khoo Peng Loong Market.

She disclosed that the traders have moved to the temporary stalls last Monday.

Khoo Peng Loong Road Market is a popular eating place for express boat passengers.

The Kapit Wharf is located just opposite the market.

Express boats plying the downriver routes, namely Passin, Daro, Igan and Pulau Bruit, are berthed at this wharf.
