Dayak NGO urges youths to get involved in devt programmes

MIRI: Non- governmental organisation Pemansang Dayak ( PD) is calling on Dayak youths throughout Malaysia to get involved in development programmes and activities organised not only by the NGO, but also other Dayak-based NGOs here.

According to PD Malaysia president Baba Emperan, today’s youths are the future leaders and among PD’s objectives are to help develop Dayak youths into successful leaders.

“Dayak youths should take advantage of all available programmes that are designed to help them develop themselves and become a successful generation.

“If all Dayak youths can get themselves actively involved in development programmes, they can achieve success and do their part in contributing to Sarawak’s development,” he said.

PD Sibu chairman Romeo Dragam meanwhile said a number of programmes have been organised for Dayak youths but the response has not been encouraging.

“Many youths in Sarawak can succeed in jobs or businesses after taking part in youths programmes designed especially for them. However, the number of Dayak youths responding to such development programmes is quite low,” he said.

In view of this, he urged Dayak youths to get involved in various programmes which are organised by PD or other Dayak- based organisations every now and then for them.

“In PD, we have special programmes for Dayak youths throughout Malaysia. This includes our ‘Dayak Dayak Dayak’ entrepreneur programme, ‘Dayak Dayak’ forums, as well as various other activities aimed at restoring sustainability among Dayak youths in all aspects,” he said.

Romeo added that Dayak youths are also showing very little interest in agriculture.

“PD will be holding a number of activities related to agriculture throughout Sarawak in the future and we hope to see Dayak youths actively participating in them,” he said.
