The final and grand final will be held at Bintulu Civic Centre on May 12 and 13 respectively starting at 8pm.

The singing contest is organised for the last time in Bintulu this year before it is rebranded as Fikon Sarawak next year.

Sarawak Arts Council ( MSS) chief executive officer Sharkawi Amit said for the last seven years, Fikon has been quite successful in producing a group of quality local singers and entertainers for Bintulu.

“It is a significant event and to expand its role statewide, the next edition of Fikon Sarawak will be held in Kuching as we want to attract more participation among our talented Sarawakians,” he said during a press conference held at MSS Bintulu conference room yesterday.

Sharkawi said it was hoped that with the rebranding to Fikon Sarawak next year, the programme would be able to contribute more towards producing not only singers but also entertainers.

“In Bintulu, Fikon has produced a number of artists and it was quite encouraging for the entertainment industry in the state,” he added.

Fikon is organised by MSS under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak in collaboration with Bintulu Resident Office, Kumpulan Sri Budaya Bintulu and Bintulu Arts Activist.

Among the objectives of Fikon are producing local singing talents, to give opportunity for arts activists to come forward to become entertainers, to enable arts activists to promote themselves in the industry and a platform for local artists to perform and expand their career.

The programme also provides an opportunity for the contestants to learn relevant knowledge and skills to become good singers.
