Union membership ensures interest taken care of, teachers told

-

MIRI: Teachers are encouraged to join teachers’ unions to ensure their needs and welfare are spoken for.

Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers’ Union ( KGBS) president Ahmad Malie said that KGBS and teachers’ unions all over Malaysia have voiced the need and welfare of teachers to the top level of the government.

“The improvement of the service scheme of teachers that we enjoy today is part of the continuing joint initiative of teachers’ unions.

“Hence, it is desirable for teachers who are not yet members of a teachers’ union to register as KGBS members,” he said.

He said this in his welcoming remarks at the ‘ Majlis Sembang- Sembang Guru dan Perundangan’ organised by KGBS Miri branch here recently.

Present at the event were KGBS vice president II Rosli Arshad and Miri Headmasters Council president Choo Chong Lok.

A total of 200 KGBS members and teachers from primary schools here attended the event.

Meanwhile, KGBS Miri chairman Jemali Len said the programme, held here for the fi rst time, received positive feedback from the teachers who attended it.

“The programme aims to expose some of the basic things related to law literacy involving the teaching profession to KGBS members and teachers, while the topic of discussion on ‘ Educators and Legal Responsibilities’ was presented by a lawyer from Kuching, Anisa Fadhillah Mohamed Jamel,” he said.

Jemali explained that KGBS Miri will continue to work from time-totime to carry out this kind of knowledge programme in line with the union’s slogan – Berilmu Berjasa.
