Sultan consents to Azmin’s appointment as Selangor MB
SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the menteri besar of Selangor for the second term.
Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, the private secretary to the Sultan, said yesterday the appointment and swearing-in of the Selangor menteri besar would take place at the Balairung Seri (Throne Room) of Istana Alam Shah in Klang at 3pm today.
“The Sultan of Selangor has consented to the setting up of the Selangor government administration as soon as possible following the mandate received from the people to ensure the smooth running of the state government as well as the harmony and well-being of the people,” he said in a statement.
Mohamad Munir said Mohamed Azmin had an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at noon yesterday to convey to the Ruler the results of the general election for Selangor and the current status in the Pakatan Harapan leadership.
He said Mohamed Azmin also informed the Ruler that he had the support of the Pakatan Harapan elected representatives in Selangor to be appointed as the menteri besar.
Mohamed Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, was sworn in on Sept 23, 2014, as the menteri besar for the first term.
Mohamed Azmin had retained the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat and the Gombak parliamentary seat in the general election yesterday.
Pakatan Harapan returned to power in Selangor by winning 51 of the 56 seats in the state legislative assembly. The BN lost eight of the 12 seats it had held in the last assembly and PAS retained only one of the 12 seats it last held. — Bernama
