Elyas Omar’s wish to see son, grandchildren in London unfulfilled
KUALA LUMPUR: “My husband did not get to fulfill his wish to see our son and grandchildren in London because God loves him more,” said Puan Sri Dayang Normala Awang Tambi, widow of former Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Elyas Omar. Dayang Normala said her husband had also told her to take good care of their children.
“He didn’t want anyone else to worry about him. That’s why he wanted all of us to go on a vacation and to see his son and grandchildren (in London).
“He was a very strong person and didn’t show that he was in pain at all,” she told Bernama when met here yesterday.
Elyas breathed his last at 7.15 pm Tuesday while receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN). He was 82.
Elyas was buried at the Jalan Ampang Muslim cemetery yesterday. Among those who attended the funeral were former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al Bakri and singer Datuk DJ Dave.
