Boxes, bags of money seized at Pavilion Residences brought to BNM
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have transferred to Bank Negara Malaysia ( BNM) several boxes and bags believed to contain cash that were seized from Pavilion Residences last week, upon completion of the counting process yesterday evening.
According to a source, the process of counting the cash believed to be in excess of RM110 million at the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department ( CCID) office in Menara KPJ, Jalan Tun Razak was completed by police with the help of other agencies including BNM at about 4pm before being taken out at 5.45pm.
He said the team also did valuation of other items seized including jewellery.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman CCID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh, when met by reporters, confirmed that the bags and boxes which were transferred contained cash but refused to tell the exact amount involved.
“All these cash bags and boxes will be taken to Bank Negara Malaysia,” he said.
It is learned that the items were taken out accompanied by the Special Action Unit to be sent to BNM for further action.
Bernama checks at KPJ Tower saw an individual carrying a money calculating machine leaving the building at 3.50 pm.
Dozens of pressmen also gathered in the lobby area of the building.
Last Friday, police seized 72 bags containing currencies in various denominations and valuables at a luxury condominium here, believed to be tied to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigation case.
Amar Singh reportedly said 284 boxes containing various luxury brand handbags were also seized from three residential units at the condominium complex in Jalan Raja Chulan here. — Bernama
