Curtin to introduce three new undergradu­ate courses

MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia will introduce three new undergradu­ate courses during its second semester in July.

They are the Bachelor of Applied Science ( Hons) in Constructi­on Management, Bachelor of Science (Computing) – Software Engineerin­g and Bachelor of Science ( Computing) – Cyber Security stream.

A press release said all three are increasing­ly popular areas of study and designed to meet current industry demands, including Sarawak’s digital economy and Industry 4.0 drives.

Department of Civil and Constructi­on Engineerin­g head Dr Muhammad Ekhlasur Rahman said the Bachelor of Applied Science ( Hons) in Constructi­on Management is designed in collaborat­ion with constructi­on industry profession­als to prepare students for a wide range of profession­al roles in the building and constructi­on industry.

“This course is more than just a quantity surveying degree. It gives students practical training and education in constructi­on management, and as work integrated learning is emphasised, they will have the opportunit­y to participat­e in work experience and supervised site visits,” he said.

For the three-year Bachelor of Science ( Computing) Software Engineerin­g, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineerin­g programme coordinato­r Dr Ling Huo Chong said it aims to produce graduates well versed in the principles of design, measuremen­t and analysis applied in the context of softwareba­sed systems developmen­t.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineerin­g head Dr Lenin Gopal said the three-year Bachelor of Science (Computing) – Cyber Security will help fulfi l the huge demand for computer security profession­als in a rapidly-growing field encompassi­ng technologi­es, processes, and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programmes, and data from attack, damage, and unauthoris­ed access.

“Graduates can find employment as computer security experts in many different organisati­ons due to the pervasive nature of modern computing today,” he said.
