-

MIRI: The inaugural Seahorse Fun Festival Miri 2018 at Coco Cabana, Marina Bay is set to feature Michael Jackson and Mr Bean impersonators.

The event, from June 21 to 24, will see nightly performances by Michael Jackson of Asia impersonator Jordan Sam and Mr Bean impersonator Faiket Luari as well as live music, evening Zumba, magic shows, Korean pop dance and live bands during six hours of non-stop stage programmes, from 4pm onwards.

According to Gig Studio Entertainment Sdn Bhd head of marketing Mark Tan, the Michael Jackson performance is a tribute to the late icon.

“Apart from the stage entertainment, there will also be Carnival Street, Kids Zone and Food Street.

“The Carnival Street will feature street music buskers, fi re eaters, street magicians, balloon clowns and so on, while kids can enjoy themselves at the Kids Zone with the Rocking Bull and many other activities.

“At the Food Street, there will be 36 stalls selling food and drinks and two stalls selling beer and liquor, he said, adding the festival hopes to attract more than 30,000 local and foreign visitors.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is the event advisor, said the festival has the potential to not only unearth and hone young talents, but will also put Miri on the map as a ‘city of attraction’.

“I always encourage young people to organise such events as it is the opportunity for them to be creative and, at the same time, attract visitors to the city and make Miri a lively city.

“Though this may not be an international event, but we are hopeful that tourists from outside Miri such as Brunei and others will join this festival. Since it is held during the school holiday, I believe parents will take the opportunity to bring their kids,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

Other highlights of the festival will be a ‘ Battle of the Bands’ ( BOTB) to be held on June 24.

According to BOTB 2018 personincharge Khalid Ashari, who is also president of Persatuan Usahawan Anak Sarawak Miri branch, registration is still open and bands from outside Miri are welcome to participate.

“We received 12 registrations so far and this is the platform for the bands to showcase their talent whereby the champion will get to represent Miri in any BOTB in the state,” he said.

The entry ticket for the festival per person per day (including all rides and stage performance entry) is RM15 ( early bird before June 5), RM20 (fun rate before June 20) and RM25 (at event entrance). Children less than 100cm tall get to enter for free.

There will be more than 20 ticket counters here and a further 12 counters in Brunei, Bintulu and Kota Kinabalu.
