SK Jalan Bintang brings pupils on Raya shopping under Ramadan programme
MIRI: Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Bintang ( SKJB) here brought joy to 36 students when they were given the opportunity to shop for Hari Raya Aidilfitri clothes at Boulevard Hypermarket Miri for their annual ‘ Program Tautan Kasih Ramadan’ yesterday.
The pupils, from primary one to six including special education students, were all smiles as they selected new clothes, shoes and accessories for the coming Aidilfitri celebration.
They were accompanied by 25 teachers and committee members of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association ( PIBG) who assisted them with the shopping.
For primary four student Nur Nadatul Shahina Najwa Samat, it was all a fun experience and she was happy to get new clothes to wear for Aidilfitri.
“I bought a ‘ baju kurung’, a scarf, socks, a pair of shoes and other accessories and I cannot wait to wear them this Raya when we go back to our village in Bekenu,” said the second of five siblings whose father works as a security guard.
Meanwhile for Muhammad Ramadhan Hasbi ( primary 5), Mohd Syawal Haziq Mohd Faizal ( primary 2) and Mohd Syawal Shariff ( primary 6), they were thrilled with their new clothes and couldn’t wait to celebrate Aidilfitri in style.
According to the school’s headmaster Ahmad Othman, the objective is to help the underprivileged pupils celebrate Aidilfitri with joy.
“We hope to bring cheer and joy to these pupils apart from teaching them to cultivate positive values to help the less fortunate and this programme will not be successful without the contribution from the community and others who know how important it is to help one another.
“The donations that we received this time around surpassed our target and apart from the clothes, we were also able to contribute daily needs such as a bag of rice, cooking oil and sugar for each of their families,” he said, adding the contributions came from the PIBG, parents, students, individuals and private companies.
Ahmad said the school did the fund collection from April 23 until May 23, and collected a total of RM13,823, allowing each pupil yesterday to spend RM350 for their shopping.
“I am grateful with all the contributions that we have managed to get within a month and it is my hope that these students will succeed in their life and also the hereafter,” he added.
Boulevard Hypermarket donated school bags to the students and the students had the opportunity to play at the game slot machine, courtesy of the hypermarket.
Among those present were SKJB senior assistant (administration) Henry Madai, SKJB PIBG chairperson Mohd Farez Samin, Boulevard Hypermarket operation manager (supermarket) Danny Lau Yu Chai and Boulevard Hypermarket marketing manager (group) Alan Lee Chee Leong.
