PKR: Do something about NCR land issue
KUCHING: The state government is urged to consider introducing a system whereby the Native Customary Rights ( NCR) land is recognised, compensated and/or returned to the rightful owners.
State Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) Stampin branch secretary Desmond Kho, in suggesting this, said the political climate has changed and the people have not only spoken but loudly in favour of a more conscious government.
“We are happy that our local press has highlighted our adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment and reiteration of Pakatan Harapan’s ( PH) intention to return Sarawak its rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63),” he told a press conference at the party headquarters here yesterday.
“There should be no doubt about that, and our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has recorded his acknowledgment and thanks to Anwar for his commitment in that regard,” he said.
Kho added that the people have spoken out loud in the just concluded general election (GE14) that they were in favour of a more caring government.
“That is a government which cares about the people and to govern with good conscience, to reflect this change in the political scenario and adopt a gentler approach to governance,” he added.
Kho, who is one of the defenders of NCR land for the past 10 years, said they were looking forward to Abang Johari’s commitment in this matter.
PKR national Women vice chief Voon Shiak Ni echoed Kho’s statement, saying that the land issue was still under state control and therefore, “if the government is at the same frequency with the people who want change, it (government) must do something about it ( NCR land issue)”.
