Cake shop break-in suspect undergoes 7-day remand

MIRI: Aman,whowasarre­sted on suspicion of breaking into a cake shop, would remain in police custody for seven days to facilitate investigat­ion.

The order was issued by Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa yesterday after allowing a remand applicatio­n by investigat­ing officer Insp Saiful Azizi Kamlun from the central station here.

In his applicatio­n, Saiful said a woman lodged a report at Lutong police station claiming that her workplace had been broken into.

The 27-year-old complainan­t, who is the production manager at the cake shop, said when she and her colleague arrived there around 6.30am on May 22, they saw that the place was in a mess.

Upon further checking, they found that several items such as a fan, a radio speaker, 23 metal trays, eight cakes, a tablet, a box of dates, a packet of Milo and two packets of biscuits were missing.

The losses were estimated at RM4,295.

Acting on informatio­n received, police arrested a man at a vacant building nearby at 8.20am. At the same time, police also seized a wallet, a speaker, five trays, a box of layered cake and three packets of dates from the man, to be used as case exhibits.

In his applicatio­n, Saiful Azizi said the seven- day remand on the 39-year- old suspect from Desa Indah 2 was needed to facilitate the investigat­ion.

The magistrate’s court allowed the suspect to remain in police custody till May 30.
