MMMC specialises in study of medicine and dentistry
KUCHING: Some 4,000 medical doctors and over 200 dental surgeons have graduated from Melaka-Manipal Medical College ( MMMC) since its inception in 1997.
The college has received many accolades including the Brandlaureate- South East Asia’s ‘Superbrand in Education – Medicine’ in 2011.
It was the first private medical school too to be granted a five-year accreditation term in 2009 for its Bachelor of medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery ( MBBS) programme.Its Bachelor of Dental Surgery ( BDS) foretells a similar trend too.
Institution Manipal of India is now ranked No 11 amongst all medical schools in India.
Among private medical schools in India, Manipal was ranked third (Outlook Magazine) in 2017.
This reflects the high standards of medical education that Manipal provides in all its institutions across the globe, including the MMMC.
The college also runs a preuniversity Foundation in Science ( FIS), which prepares students who have completed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) and O-Level for MBBS and BDS.
These programmes are unique as undergraduates complete Phase I of pre- clinical studies in India before returning to Malaysia for Phase II.
In Phase II, MBBS undergraduates continue with clinical training in Melaka, Muar, Segamat and Jasin Hospitals, while dentistry undergraduates have a complete dental clinic experience within MelakaManipal’s campus.
The teaching, learning and recreational facilities in both Manipal and Malaysia campuses are second to none. They include auditorium, lecture halls, classrooms, multi- disciplinary laboratories, clinical skillslearning centre and computer laboratories.
Other amenities include hostels, cafeterias, gymnasium, swimming pool, sauna, squash courts, football field, basketball court, as well as simulated games facilities for golf and football.
