SMK Tung Hua nets three Young Inventors bronze medals

SIBU: All three SMK Tung Hua teams won bronze medals in the World Young Inventors Exhibition 2018 ( WYIE) and the third Arts and Creativity Exhibition (ACE) Write and Illustrate Competitio­n cum Exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The competitio­ns were organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society ( MINDS).

The teams comprised Lau Chian Nee, Gordon Tiong Shann Xiang, Johnny Ling Hoe Fong, Esther Woon Chieng Wen, Dina Sia Jia Xin, Duncan Tay Yuen Xiu, Alvin Chien Siong Chew, and Adwind Wong Chgion Hong. Their entries were Anti-Flood Car Saver, Multipurpo­se Phone Case and Magic Book Cover.

In the Write and Illustrate Competitio­n cum Exhibition, two entries from the school won a silver medal and a bronze medal. The silver came from Lau Chian Nee and Wong Shin Yau whose entry was titled ‘Rice Barrel’.

Julia Wong Wei Ching and Amily Lau Hui Fang won the bronze with entry titled ‘ Rojak – The Beauty of All’.

The teacher advisor for the Write and Illustrate Competitio­n, Hung Yu Ling, said the school sent three essays for the competitio­n and all three were shortliste­d for awards.

“We are very proud that two of the essays won. The competitio­n was open to all students in Malaysia, to promote creativity in writing and drawing,” she said.

“All essays were based on the theme ‘A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever: Showcasing Malaysia Heritage’,” she added.

Meanwhile, school principal Goi Nguok Yew said the outstandin­g achievemen­t had come through hard work of the teachers and students.

“We’d also received encouragin­g support from the parents,” she added.
