Association committed to assisting the needy – Pekema Sarawak president
KUCHING: The Association of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawak remains committed in assisting less fortunate members of the community through various initiatives.
It president Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki says the association is always looking to identify those in need of assistance, be they individuals, associations or charitable bodies.
“Despite the current economic situation, Pekema remains committed in assisting the needy community.
“This is our only way in giving back to the community, especially those in need of assistance, through ongoing initiatives from time to time and not only focusing on the festive seasons,” he said in his speech during a presentation of ‘duit raya’ to less fortunate children here on Tuesday.
Abang Khalid said as of April this year, Pekema has donated a total of RM300,000 to those who are unable to afford medical treatment, victims of natural disasters, single mothers, the less fortunate, and also for educational purposes.
The event saw the association play host to 300 children from the Laila Taib Welfare Complex, orphanages, Gita and Matang community- based rehabilitation centres, Rumah Amal Nur Murni, as well as those from less fortunate families within the city.
Among those present were were Abang Khalid’s wife Puan Sri Lily Johari, Pekema Sarawak deputy president Dato Ismail Abang Saufi, vice president Tapah Ata, honorary secretary Polycarp Joseph Garston, honorary treasurer Eshlie Ahmad Nawawie and other dignitaries.
