KUALA LUMPUR: UCSI University is ranked as Malaysia’s best private university in the Quacquarelli Symonds ( QS) World University Rankings 2018/2019, placing it in the top two per cent of the world’s universities.

Ranked at 481, UCSI is the only Malaysian private university in the top 500. This is the first time UCSI is featured in the annual ranking.

Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, relayed the news in a press conference at the Ministry of Higher Education in Putrajaya yesterday.

Vice- chancellor and president of UCSI, senior professor Datuk Dr Khalid Yusoff said in a statement: “The university’s continued rise in global stature was a culmination of the push for excellence, a commitment to synergise, and the dedication and hard work of its staff and students in pursuing these ideals and aspirations.

“The rankings have proven that we can do it if we want to, and UCSI is taking up the challenge of making Malaysia the regional hub of higher education,” he said.

UCSI has also elevated its engagement with the world’s best universities. Its students are annually selected by Harvard, Imperial College London, University of Chicago, Tsinghua University and the University of Queensland for involvement in various research programmes in these universities.

Additionally, the University of Melbourne has had arrangements for UCSI’s thirdyear medical students to work for the bachelor’s degree in medical sciences after one year of studies in Melbourne, indicating that Melbourne University recognises UCSI’s medical programme.

The students will then return to UCSI to complete the programme, graduating with two degrees from two universities. — Bernama SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will appear in a road safety campaign in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
