PH Sarawak wants Malanjum to be next CJ
MIRI: Pakatan Harapan ( PH) Sarawak supports its Sabahan counterparts in calling for Tan Sri Richard Malanjum to be appointed as Chief Justice.
PH Sarawak secretary Alan Ling said Malanjum, as the most senior Federal Court judge, is most qualified to take on the position.
“He is the one who introduced e-filing and video conferencing for Sabah and Sarawak, which are now being implemented there,” Ling said during the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association’s ( NSJA) courtesy call on him and Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon yesterday.
According to Ling, the current Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak has shown great leadership and innovation in improving the judiciary.
He said Malanjum has also fought hard to preserve and upgrade the role and status of the Native Court system in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as revived the tradition of the annual opening of the legal year.
“PH Sarawak is confident that if he is given the chance, he will change the landscape of our judiciary in Malaysia,” added Ling.
Meanwhile, Dr Ting called on NSJA to organise press club meetings here.
“NSJA can bring in speakers such as from Reuters, AFP, international speakers to give the bigger picture in reporting around the globe, giving balanced ideas, and give new information to the reporters,” he said.
