June 29 men­tion for Nigerian duo charged with drug pos­ses­sion

KUCH­ING: The mag­is­trate’s court here set June 29 this year for fur­ther men­tion for two Nigerian men charged with drug pos­ses­sion.

Mag­is­trate Por­tia Tham Ong Leng fixed the date pend­ing the com­ple­tion of a chemist re­port.

The ac­cused, Oguzie Ifesinachi Bobby and Ako­mas An­thony Ekele, are al­leged to have been in pos­ses­sion of 0.48 grammes of Ecstasy and 1.09 grammes of cannabis in a room of a bud­get ho­tel at Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui here around 12.30am on May 4 this year.

They are each charged un­der Sec­tion 12( 2) of the Dan­ger­ous Drugs Act 1952, pun­ish­able un­der Sec­tion 12( 3) of the same Act, which car­ries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or im­pris­on­ment not ex­ceed­ing five years, or both upon con­vic­tion.

Both also face a charge un­der Sec­tion 6 of the Dan­ger­ous Drugs Act 1952 which car­ries a fine of RM20,000 or im­pris­on­ment not ex­ceed­ing five years, or both upon con­vic­tion.

The court de­nied the two ac­cused bail and or­dered them to be fur­ther re­manded in prison pend­ing the next hear­ing.

Mean­while, in the same court­room, an In­done­sian man was jailed for six months af­ter he pleaded guilty to re­tain­ing a stolen mo­tor­cy­cle.

The ac­cused, Dind­ing, ad­mit­ted to com­mit­ting the of­fence on June 9 this year at Kam­pung Padang Pan in Bau. The bike be­longed to a vil­lager who had re­ported it stolen on March 26, 2017.

He was charged un­der Sec­tion 411 of the Pe­nal Code which car­ries a jail term of be­tween six months and five years, and a fine, upon con­vic­tion.

The court also or­dered Dind­ing to be handed over to the Im­mi­gra­tion De­part­ment for de­por­ta­tion upon the com­ple­tion of his sen­tence.
