Final mention of drug possession case gets new date

MIRI: The Magistrate’s Court has set July 10 for the final mention of a case involving a man accused of being in possession of the drug Methamphet­amine.

The accused was ordered to be released on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties while awaiting the date.

Earlier, prosecutin­g officers applied for a new date for further mention of the case as the chemist report on the case exhibits has yet to be obtained.

Liaw Tze Loong, 41, from Jalan Berembang 1, Pujut 7B here was charged under Section 12 ( 2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act ( DDA) 1952 and punishable under Section 12 ( 3) of the same act.

If found guilty, the accused can be fined up to RM100,000 or five years’ jail or both.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused was charged for being in possession of Methamphet­amine weighing 0.25 gram (gross weight).

He allegedly committed the offence at 10am on March 26, at a ground floor bedroom of the accused’s house in Pujut 7B.

The prosecutio­n was done by ASP Mary Ong in front of Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa.
