Pensioner’s body found, grandsons still missing

MARUDI: The captain of an express boat found the body of pensioner Sujai Jaraee, 72, floating face down in Sungai Baram around 7am yesterday.

Marudi police chief DSP Gabriel Risut said Sujai’s two grandsons – Mohd Zafril Wasli, 13, and Mohd Alyee Ong, 14 – who had gone fishing with him at the wharf around 5.50am, were still missing as of press time.

Gabriel, who went to the scene with Marudi police station officer- in- charge Sgt Embrose Henry, said police and Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) personnel brought out Sujai’s body, which was then identified by villagers.

A search and rescue operation for the teens began around 8am involving the police, Bomba, and members of the public.

Sujai’s body was later brought to Marudi Hospital for a postmortem.

It is understood that Sujai used to work for the Agricultur­e Department here.
