‘Community should support work of the media’

-

MIRI: The local community should be more understanding and supportive of the media’s work and contributions to society, said Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations Sarawak president Hii Teck Yun.

He said members of the media have worked tirelessly to responsibly bring the latest news and information to the people.

“However, the appreciation towards their job is still very low and, at times, the criticisms are overwhelming.

“Perhaps it is time to turn around such perceptions and be more appreciative,” he said when the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) members paid a courtesy call on him recently.

Hii has been invited to attend NSJA’s Gawai-Raya Celebration dinner.

On the recent general election, he said the change was evidence of the people’s power.

“Whether the ruling party or the opposition party, both sides must play their role well because everything they do is for the people, the voters who voted for them,” he said.
