First City University College holds Innovation Day

PETALING JAYA: First City University College’s Faculty of Engineerin­g and Computing held its Innovation Day recently.

The 50 most inventive student projects were displayed, including from Bachelor of Engineerin­g ( Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineerin­g and Bachelor of Science ( Hons) Software Engineerin­g final year students.

Selected projects from Diploma in Informatio­n Technology students were also showcased.

The annual Innovation Day serves as a platform for students to connect with industry, potential employers, and partners.

Projects on display often impress industry partners, with some students even receiving employment offers.

“It is a good platform for me to expose my project and anticipate a job offer,” said Bachelor of Engineerin­g ( Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineerin­g final year student Alice Foo Qian Hui.

“External education is important for the students as it exposes them to the real world.

It’s a way to train students for the industry,” said First City UC director Tan Sri Datuk Teo Chiang Liang.

The event also featured the talk ‘ Challenges Faced by the Engineerin­g Profession in an Open Market Economy’ by Rocky Wong from the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

Student projects included Design of a Climbing Robot, OOTD – Social Fashion Platform with Augmented Reality, Indoor Positionin­g System using WiFi Localisati­on Technique, Eye of Horus – An Applicatio­n of Face Recognitio­n and Steganogra­phy, as well as Performanc­e Evaluation of Various Modulation Techniques for Light Fidelity ( LiFi).

Winners were chosen through 70 per cent profession­al assessment and 30 per cent online voting.

First City UC constantly works with collaborat­ive partners in relevant digital industries such as IBM Malaysia and Google Malaysia to enhance the student learning experience.

As the faculty continues innovating to keep up with industry demand, more new programmes will be offered for students wishing to pursue careers in Engineerin­g and Informatio­n Technology, particular­ly in Mechanical, Mobile Computing, Networking and Security.

Degree graduates can progress to pursue a master’s degree in Software Engineerin­g.

Various scholarshi­ps are available including Teo Soo Cheng Foundation Scholarshi­p, merit scholarshi­p, sports scholarshi­p, UEC scholarshi­p, student leader and top office bearer scholarshi­p, and sibling incentive.
