SJK Chung Hua Miri, SMK St Columba emerge inter-school wushu champion

KUCHING: SJK Chung Hua Miri and SMK St Columba were crowned the overall champions of the 5th Zhong Hua Wushu InterSchoo­l Open Championsh­ip at SM Pei Min Miri recently.

Captained by Fu Xuan Xuan, SJK Chung Hua Miri captured nine gold, two silver, six bronze medals and one fourth placing to claim the primary schools crown for the fifth consecutiv­e year.

Coming in second to f i fth positions in this category were SJK Chung Sibu with seven golds, eight silvers and two bronzes, SJK Taman Rajang Sibu (7- 6-1), SJK Thian Chin Sibu ( 6 golds) and SMK Kai Ming Bintulu ( 1-1- 2) respective­ly.

Finishing in sixth to ninth spots were SJK North Miri (1-2- 0), SJK Chung Hua Bintulu (1-1-1), SJK Chung Hua Krokop Miri (1- 0- 0) and SJK Chung Hua Tudan Miri ( 0-1- 0).

In the secondary schools section, SMK St Columba, led by Sukma XIX shadow team athlete Mok Xiao Yuan, regained their overall champions title after a lapse of one year when they captured six gold, two silver and one bronze medals to beat 11 other teams.

The first runners up were SMK Chung Hua Miri with four golds, four silvers and three bronzes while SM Pei Min Miri took third position after bagging five golds, one silver, one bronze and one fourth placing.

Those schools finishing in fourth to 12th placings were SM Kai Dee Bintulu ( 3-2- 3), SMK Chung Hua Sibu (3-1-2), SMK Lopeng Tengah Miri (3- 0- 0), SMK Tiong Hin Sibu ( 2-1- 0), SM Bandar Sibu ( 2- 0- 0), SMK Methodist Sibu (1-1-1), SMK Wong Nai Siong ( 1- 0- 0), SMK Bintulu ( 0-2-1) and SMK Lutong Miri ( 0-1-1).

The annua l tournament , organised by Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu Club, attracted more than 100 representa­tives from Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

Organising chairman Jong Chin Han, who is also one of the Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu Club coaches, gave away the prizes.
