Man remanded in prison after failing to post bail

SIBU: A 51-year-old man charged with house-breaking, dishonestl­y receiving stolen property and two drug-related offences pleaded not guilty at a magistrate’s court here yesterday.

Wong Ngie Lee, who was ordered to be released on bail, however, could not post bail, and has to spend time behind bars while waiting for the next trial date.

The house- breaking charge was filed under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of 14 years and also liable to a fine.

He allegedly broke into a house to steal a pair of sports shoes at a house in Bruang Road at 7.10am on June 20. He was allowed to be released on RM2,800- bail with two local sureties.

For dishonestl­y receiving stolen property, the court allowed Wong to be released on RM3,000- bail with two local sureties.

He allegedly retained a stolen motorcycle which belongs to 22year- old Masjuliana.

Wong allegedly committed the offence at 7.20am on the same day and place for breaking into the house in Bruang Road.

The charge framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a minimum six months’ jail and maximum five years’ jail, and may also be fined on conviction.

Wong was also charged with drug possession under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or a jail term not exceeding five years or both.

He allegedly committed the offence at a house in Berlian Road at 1.45pm on Jan 6, 2016.

He was found in possession 0.29 gram of methamphet­amine, and was allowed to be released on RM2,000-bail with two local sureties.

Another drug offence charge against him was framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug abuse, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or a maximum two years’ jail and shall undergo supervisio­n after serving the jail sentence.

Wong allegedly consumed Amphetamin­e and Methamphet­amine at Sg Merah Police Station at 3.30pm on April 6, 2016.

The court allowed him to be released on RM2,000- bail with two local sureties.

The court fixed July 12 for pre-trial case management of the drug possession and housebreak­ing cases, and July 18 for the drug abuse case and dishonestl­y receiving stolen property case.
