Masjid Darul Istiqamah holds Aidilfitri gathering

MIRI: Masjid Darul Istiqamah Kampung Luak recently held a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.

More than 100 people attended the event at the mosque’s hall from 8am to noon.

“Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the most festive religious celebratio­n in Islam and it is celebrated by various levels of society regardless of social status or race. In the context of this country, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a celebratio­n that shows Malay culture as its core,” said mosque patron Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang, who is former Sibuti member of parliament.

“The culture of visiting houses during the celebratio­n needs to be maintained so that the social relationsh­ips in celebratio­ns can also be preserved.”

He said Islam encourages Muslims to strengthen unity and brotherhoo­d.

Mosque chairperso­n Shaikh Naeemuddin Shaikh Aminullah said the annual open house seeks to strengthen ties between villagers and give them the chance to meet with local leaders.

“We have invited local leaders and I am grateful for their support for our programme,” he said.

During the event, Sibuti member of parliament Lukanisman Awang Sauni presented an RM5,000 minor rural project ( MRP) grant to the mosque.

Among those present were Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus; Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin; and Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting.
