- July 8, 2018

MIRI: The dedication and cooperation among the teachers and the students are instrumental in enabling Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) to emerge the overall winner of the annual division-level inter-secondary school Malay drama competition for three consecutive years.

The RRSS had once again triumphed in this year’s event, jointly hosted by the Education Department and SMK Lopeng Tengah and was staged at Pustaka Miri recently.

For the divisional ‘Komsas Drama Competition 2018’, the school clinched many top awards through its play entitle ‘Bukan Gila’ (Not Crazy).

According to RRSS chief executive officer (CEO) Dato’ Dr Fong Onn Min, RRSS won the ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ awards through Hosea Pengiran Robert and Britney Syirine Lawas, respectively, while the ‘Best Director’ award went to Ridge Tang Wei Cheong.

‘Bukan Gila’ also grabbed the ‘Best Cinematography’ award.

“My heartfelt congratulations to the teachers-in-charge Patricia Mandang and Ling Siaw Lin, and also the team from the Bahasa Malaysia Department of RRSS, which has won numerous awards for the school including the Students Forum honours, both at Sarawak and national level, over the past several years,” Fong said in a statement yesterday.

This year’s divisional Komsas drama competition gathered teams from eight schools.

The annual event strives to encourage students to appreciate the literary components (Komsas) of the Malay language and at the same time, give them the opportunity to develop their stage performance skills further.
