PBDS Baru receives growing Bidayuh support in Puncak Borneo
KUCHING: The support for Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru ( PBDS Baru) from the Bidayuhs in Puncak Borneo is growing.
According to PBDS Baru vicepresident Andrew Puro, the party has so far received about 1,200 applications from Dayaks in Mambong alone, which is under the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency.
Additionally, he says several thousand membership application forms have been distributed in Mambong through PBDS Baru’s representatives in the villages there.
“Our membership drive is ongoing across Sarawak and the pace has been very fast, especially in the predominantly- Bidayuh areas.
“We plan to run more activities in all Bidayuh areas to create awareness of and explain our presence and objectives in Sarawak politics. So far, the response from the ground has been positive,” said Andrew, who is a former bank officer.
He added that a pro tem committee for PBDS Baru Puncak Borneo/ Mambong – headed by him – had been formed and was officially announced last Saturday.
Andrew stressed that among PBDS Baru’s main struggles are to fight for Native Customary Rights ( NCR) land ownership, to have equal education and scholarship rights, to fight for employment in the civil service, to fight for opportunities in business, as well as to demand for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63) to be honoured by the federal government.
