ALOR SETAR: The government will continue the Rubber City Project in Padang Terap to further develop the rubber industry as well as to help improve the living standards of the locals.

Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok Suh Sim said the ministry hoped to work with the state government to look for the best approaches to expedite the project development.

“We intend to continue with this project, Malaysian Rubber Board ( MRB) will consult with various parties... we think that this project will help the Kedahans, and also the rubber industry,” she said.

She was speaking at a press conference after officiating at the National Rubber Industry Conference 2018 here yesterday.

Also present were her Deputy Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and MRC director- general Dr Zairossani Mohd Nor. The conference will be held for three days.

In the Budget 2016, the previous Barisan Nasional government has allocated RM320 million for the project.

Meanwhile, Zairossani said MRC had assisted the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority ( NCIA) and the state government to develop the project’s development plan. He said at the moment, those authorities were at the stage of land acquisition and planning for the development.

“We have assisted the NCIA and the state government to develop the development plans, and I think at present they are at the land acquisition stage, still in the planning stage,” he said. — Bernama
