Party holds Gawai Raya event to close celebratio­ns

SRI AMAN: Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) Sri Aman and several federal agencies held a joint Gawai and Hari Raya event for three longhouses and a Malay village at Tanjung Bijat Ai here recently.

Norina Umoi Utot, who contested as Pakatan Harapan candidate in the recent 14th General Election, was present to officiate at the events held at Rumah Joel Kion, Rh Nyambar, Empili Tengah, Rh Jali, Empelanjau and Kampung Baur.

She was accompanie­d by 25 community leaders from around Sri Aman.

Also present were Malaysia Pepper Board ( MPB) director general Dr Harry Entebang and several senior officers who had come from Kuching.

Norina, in her speech, called on the people in Sri Aman to co- operate with the Pakatan Harapan federal government. She said the people, especially community leaders, should stop politickin­g but focus on developmen­t of the rural areas where they reside.

Meanwhile, Harry said MPB would work together with the PH federal government to ensure subsidised agricultur­al assistance reach farmers in rural areas of Sarawak.

He also encouraged farmers to plant pepper and to seek assistance from relevant agencies to increase their pepper production.

At the events, Norina presented stationeri­es to school-going children to motivate them to do better in their studies.
