Selangor PKR proposes one name for Sungai Kandis state by-election

-

SHAH ALAM: Selangor PKR has sent only one name to the party headquarters as the proposed candidate for the Sungai Kandis state by- election scheduled for Aug 4.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said yesterday the Selangor PKR political bureau met on Tuesday and considered several names.

“It is left to the headquarters to consider others as well.

Selangor reached consensus on one name,” he said to reporters after chairing a meeting of the state executive council here.

Earlier, three people had been mentioned as the possible candidates, namely former Kota Anggerik state assemblyman Yaakob Sapari as well as Mohd Radzlan Jalaluddin and Mikael Eskandar.

The Sungai Kandis seat became vacant following the death of the assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2.

The Election Commission set nomination for July 21 and polling for Aug 4.

Meanwhile, Selangor Umno has decided to use the party logo instead of the Barisan Nasional logo for the by- election.

Selangor Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said the decision was reached at a meeting chaired Tuesday night by the chairman, Tan Sri Noh Omar.

“We met last night ( Tuesday night) and reached a consensus that we field our candidate in the by- election.

Selangor Umno also proposed that we use the Umno logo,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Asked for the name of the candidate, Mat Nadzari said Selangor Umno left it to the party leadership to determine that.

PAS had said that it would only nominate a candidate if the byelection was a straight fi ght and not a three- cornered contest so as to avoid the splitting of votes as was the case in the 14th general election.
