Etnik Revolution bags top prize at Waterfront Music Fest 2018
KUCHING: Etnik Revolution emerged as the champion of the Waterfront Music Fest (WMF) 2018 held at Godown Amphitheatre, Kuching Waterfront this past weekend.
The band from Sibu delivered four self- composed songs, namely ‘Ketumba Borneo’ and ‘Ameii’ in the preliminary round, and ‘Lost Idol of Sarawak’ and ‘Cai Cer Ruai’ during the final. They took home a cash prize of RM1,500, trophy and certificates.
Placing second in the competition was Van Java, with Raban Kenyalang coming in third. The bands brought home prize monies worth RM1,000 and RM800 respectively, as well as trophies and certificates.
WMF has over the years provided a stepping stone for its participants to gain a greater foothold in the local music industry, as proven by At Adau and Nading Rhapsody, the respective champions of WMF in 2016 and 2012.
Additionally, other WMF alumni like 2017 champion Suk Binie’, Pinanak Sentah, Hornbill Familia’s, Meruked and Rawi will also be performing at The Big Tent stage during the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival.
Speaking at the event, Edwin Abit, who is deputy general manager cum director of the Tourism and Hospitality division of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation ( SEDC), thanked the management of Kuching Waterfront for its continuing support for local musicians and emerging talents through programmes such as Waterfront Music Fest.
He added he is looking forward to the jazz version of competition which will be held soon.
Also present were Sara Urusharta Sdn Bhd general manager and WMF 2018 judging panel Alan Poh, Sarawak Arts Council CEO Sharkawi Amit, Sarawak Simphony Jazz Orchestra seasoned musician Mohd Nawawi Mohd Fauzi, and Sekolah Seni Malaysia arts instructor Wagner John Sangur.
