Pos Malaysia told to consider initiatives to assist postal workers

-

SHAH ALAM: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry has instructed the management of Pos Malaysia Bhd to review and consider initiatives that can be implemented to assist postal workers.

Minister Gobind Singh Deo said this was in line with the government focus on improving the quality of life of the low-income group.

“Postal workers play an important role in our society. They ensure that letters and Pos Laju items are sent and delivered on time and safely and enable us to undertake various transactions and payments at the post offices.

“All these are executed with full responsibility and trust by these workers, many of whom are in the low-income group,” he said to reporters after launching the Integrated Parcel Centre ( IPC) expansion project here yesterday.

Gobind Singh also said that he believed that Pos Laju was heading in the right direction by increasing its processing hub capacity to meet the rapid growth of the e- commerce sector.

“Pos Laju leads the automation and capacity- building aspects which are important in the digital era to meet consumer expectations and demands.

“Nevertheless, it has to be fast in the capacity- building and development initiatives as the backbone of the country’s economy,” he said.

IPC is Pos Malaysia’s automatic parcel sorting facility and the latest expansion increases its capacity by 150 per cent, from 112,000 items to 300,000 items per day. — Bernama
