Sarawak teenager strikes amid dominant Koreans

KUCHING: Young upstart Marcos Chang Hao Hong sprung a big surprise in the TPB 9 singles mixed event of the World Para Bowling Tour Malaysia at Megalanes Sarawak, E-Mart Batu Kawa yesterday when he clinched the silver in the 21-bowler field.

It was an inspiring debut for the 13-year- old from Sarawak who knocked down 1,231 pins to finish just 57 pins behind the winner Mun Gyeong Ho of South Korea while his compatriot Min Jin Ho was third with 1,186 pins.

Indeed, the day belonged to the South Koreans who bagged four gold medals to lead the medal tally in the Asian Para Games Qualifying event.

Bae Jin Hyung felled 1,234 pins to clinch the TPB3 Men’s Singles ahead of compatriot Lee Jae Youn (1,192) and Japanese Toshio Ozaki (1,095).

In the TPB92 Singles Mixed, the gold medalist was Koh Young Bae after he felled 1,348 pins.

Lee Ku nH ye made it a one two finish for South Korea as he registered 1,231 pins followed by Thailand’s Boripat C hong viva than at ham in third place with 1,219.

Sim Jin Yong was also on target as he delivered a gold for South Korea after knocking down 1,348 pins in the TPB10 singles mixed while Raiwin Phisitthan­akul of Thailand and Mohd Amin Rashid won the si lver and bronze with 1,339 and 1,253 pins respective­ly.

Malaysia captured its first gold through Mohd Hairul Miran in the TPB1 singles mixed with a total score of 842 pins over six games. South Koreans Kim Jung Hoon and Oh Taek Geun were second and third respective­ly with 809 pins and 799 pins.
