Traffic lights wanted at accident-prone intersection

-

MIRI: The relevant authorities have been asked to install traffic lights at the accidentprone intersection of Vista Perdana and Desa Bahagia in Permyjaya.

It is understood that several accidents, including fatal ones, have occurred at the intersection since the Permyjaya-Pujut bypass officially opened in 2015.

One resident, who requested anonymity, said an accident occurred at the Jalan Perak junction yesterday, involving a vehicle coming out of Vista Perdana.

The accident, which took place at 7.35am, further intensified the peak hour traffic jam.

“As a resident of Vista Perdana, we want the authorities concerned to quickly install a traffic light at Jalan Perak, to avoid more accidents from occurring there,” he said.

He added residents had requested for traffic lights since 2015 and even signed a petition which that passed on to the authorities.

“But until today, there is yet to be any news on it. So far, there is also no elected representative coming forward to resolve this matter,” he claimed.

Parti Islam Se-Malaysia Youth wing treasurer Mukhtar Suhaili also called for the traffic lights to be installed, not only to improve road safety but also traffic congestion.

“It is very hard for residents in Vista Perdana and Desa Bahagia to come out of the junction during peak hours. In fact, some of motorists drive very fast, making it difficult for drivers who want to exit from the Vista Perdana junction to do so,” he said.

“There is no traffic light, no speed limit signboard, or even yellow lines to slow down vehicles. These are among reasons why some motorists are not bothered about road safety when using that road.”

This year, two lives have already been lost at the accident-prone intersection.
