Sarawak juniors in hot pursuit of senior players

KUCHING: Sarawak junior golfers are giving their seniors a good fight in the inaugural Sarawak World Amateur Golf Championsh­ip which will end at Damai Golf and Country Club ( DGCC) today.

The juniors playing for Team PATRO are 12-year- old Anson Yeo, 13-year olds Saxen Hii and Benjamin Ethan and 16-year- old Mohd Hadif Fathely.

They are just four strokes behind the current leader in the opening day of the three- day event which is participat­ed by 15 teams from throughout Sarawak.

Team HKH is represente­d by brothers Lee Ka Tung and Lee Kah Ming, Lau Ching Leong and Sarawak Golf Associatio­n (SGA) president Hoan Kee Hock.

They are currently in the lead in the gross event with a total score of 236 strokes with Team PATRO trailing with 241 and Team DGCC is third with 247 strokes.

The leading contenders in the nett category are Team PGABS KAOK, PGABS Kenyalang and AR Vangers Duo which are expected to face stiff competitio­n in the final round while in the individual Gross category, the Lee brothers are currently dominating the top two positions with Anson Yeo closing in on the two seasoned golfers.

The winners will receive their prizes from Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and chairman of Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n ( SEDC), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain at the closing and prize presentati­on ceremony at Poolside of Grand Margherita Hotel later this evening.
