SMK Sacred Heart, Green Road shuttlers top AirAsia-BAM badminton tournament
KUCHING: SMK Sacred Heart of Sibu and SMK Green Road of Kuching were crowned the new boys and girls champions of the AirAsia- BAM National Junior League ( Sarawak) at Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) Hall along Jalan Lapangan Terbang last weekend.
The Sacred Heart boys bounced back from one point down to beat the defending champions SMK Batu Lintang 3-1 for the title.
Martin Wong lost 6-21, 7-21 to Barrie Chong in the first singles but the pair of Henry Wong and Jordan Lee equalised for Sacred Heart when they outplayed Felix Fong- Jeremy Juan 21-17, 21-15 in the first doubles.
The second singles saw Andy Lau easing to a 21- 7, 21-12 win over Lau Jian Liang while Sia Yuk Hong-Wilson Tiong made it 3-1 for Sacred Heart after they beat Edward Ngui-Freddy Phang 21-12, 21-10 in straight sets in th second doubles.
In the girls final, SMK Green Road edged Riam Road Secondary School of Miri 2-1 for their maiden win.
Kashley Kho met little resistance from Yong En En, winning 21- 9 and 21-11 in the first singles while Jocelyn Tu and Lee Zi Suen lost 15-21, 17-21 to Emilla Lewi-Pamella Bawang in the doubles.
Olivia delivered the winning point for SMK Green Road when she beat Sim Jia Min 22-20, 21- 8.
SBA president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain and secretary Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir gave away the prizes to the winners.
