SIBU: The Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) Nangka branch recently presented a wheelchair to a former soldier in Bintulu.

PVATM Nangka committee member James Chua Francis Main handed over the wheelchair to 75-year- old former lance corporal Ahmad Tapa, who had served in the army for 10 years.

Ahmad had served in the Third Royal Malay Regiment and Ninth Royal Malay Regiment.

According to PVATM Nangka chairman Abang Mos Abang Tungal, Ahmad has been suffering from diabetes over the past few years.

He said veterans who need assistance such as wheelchairs could apply for aid from the association.

“We’ll look for sponsors to get the things that the veterans need,” he said.

Abang Mos also said the welfare of the veterans, such as monthly allowances, is being taken care of by the Veterans Affairs Department.
