NSJA founding member Alfred Lee passes away
MIRI: A former president of Northern Sarawak Journalist Association ( NSJA) Alfred Lee Kim Lung passed away at National Cancer Institute, Putrajaya at 1.10pm on Thursday (July 26).
According to NSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon, Lee was one of the founding committee members of NSJA in 1974 and he was instrumental in getting the association registered with the Registrar of Societies ( ROS).
“Lee’s contributions as well as other members during that time are immense because they were the ones who decided to bring all journalists in Miri together to form an association.
“They were the ones who enabled the voices of journalists to be heard and with this, we are thankful to Lee and other founding members of NSJA.”
After NSJA was officially registered, Lee was appointed as its first president and he held the position from 1974 to 1976.
Lee started his career as a journalist in late 1960s at Sarawak Tribune. By the end of 1980s, he left journalism and pursued a corporate career at a private company. Years later, he left his corporate job to open his own business. He also took up photography as a hobby.
He was a life member of Miri Photography Society and also its permanent advisor.
Due to his interest in videomaking, he made many friends from Peninsular Malaysia and foreign countries, and constantly invited them to visit Miri as part of the effort to introduce Miri as a tourist destination.
His remains were brought back to Miri from Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon while his funeral service will be held today ( Saturday) at his home in Riam.
Lee, the younger brother of Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, leaves behind a wife, four sons and five daughters.
