Five collared for involvement in drug-related activities
SERIAN: Five men believed to be involved in drug-related activities were arrested during a raid at a house in Kampung Seberang, Sebuyau near here midnight yesterday.
Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the raid was carried out at around 12.30am by a group of enforcement personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division and the district police headquarters.
The raid, according to him, was conducted after a public tip- off as well as police investigation.
“During the raid, three suspects attempted to run away through the kitchen but their escape was successfully blocked by police officers who guarded the back of the residence.
“An inspection following the arrest led the authorities to discover a small bag inside which were two tiny transparent plastic bags and 12 pieces of cut straws containing crystal powder believed to be Syabu or methamphetamine,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Aswandy said the other two suspects were apprehended while the enforcement team was on patrol in the nearby neighbourhood.
He disclosed that urine tests on the three suspects aged between 26 and 38 all came back positive of methamphetamine.
“All the suspects are remanded until July 31 to facilitate investigation into the case,” he said.
He added that one of the suspects has been found to have committed an offence under Section 6( 2)( c) of the Drug Dependents ( Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 prior to the arrest.
The case is being investigated under Section 12( 3) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
