KRP eye more medals in title defence
MIRI: K e l ab R ek r e a s i Petroleum ( KRP) swimmers are determined to defend their title and improve medal haul in the 6th KRP Invitational Swimming Championship at the club’s pool in Lutong on Aug 4.
KRP chief coach Mohd Faizal @ Thomas Abdullah said the club will be fielding 79 swimmers – the biggest number out of the 186 swimmers from eight competing teams, including three from Brunei.
“Last year, KRP emerged champion with 32 gold, 19 silver and 28 bronze medals and this year we set our target to be the champion again and win more medals,” he said.
The other teams are KRPM Swim team, Tenby International School, SJK © Chung Hua Miri, SK Sri Mawar.
Three teams from Brunei are Dolphin Swimming Club, Brunei Speed Swimming Club and Swimming Tutong Team.
They wi l l compete in 6 8 individual events and six team relay events in the one- day meet which is divided into nine age group categories.
Faizal said the objective of the swimming meet is to strengthen ties among all communities and expose local talents for future competitions. It is also aimed at further promoting swimming as one of healthy activities.
Faizal urged the public and parents to come and support the swimmers during the meet. Admission is free.
Meanwhile, KRP also offers learn-to-swim and fitness classes and those who are interested are encouraged to join.
