Sarawak wushu Sukma squad undergo training stint in China

KUCHING: Thirteen members of the Sarawak Sukma wushu team are currently undergoing a month training/exposure stint in Henan.

They include taolu athletes Muhammad Asri Abdul Wahab, Clement Ting Su Wei ( national athlete), Elvic Bong Qian Zheng, Clement Thian Fung Seng, Chiew Sow Hong, Fu Sian Wei, Audrey Chan Yee Jo (national athlete), Lee Hui Xuan (national back up athlete), Yong Arifah Khairul Kok, Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern and sanda athletes Daniel Manggin, Kelvin Kong Qi Fatt and Chua Teck Kai.

According to a press statement released by the Wushu Federation of Sarawak ( WFS) yesterday, the training/exposure stint is part of Sarawak’s preparatio­ns for the challenge in wushu competitio­n from Sept 11 to 13 in Sukma XIX in Perak.

“Wushu is one of the high performanc­e sports in Sarawak and a consistent major contributo­r of gold medals in Sukma,” Ting was quoted as saying.

“It is highly recognised by the Sarawak government and the standard of wushu in Sukma is very high and all the leading states are trying very hard to outdo each other by sending their athletes to China for training and exposure.”

“As such, WFS are striving to send its athletes to China for the training exposure in the hope that they will improve their skills and techniques and learn the latest techniques through interactio­n and sharing of experience with their China counterpar­ts from the Henan Province Wushu Academy.”
