15 young exponents for national taekwondo c’ship in Perak

K UC H I NG : Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak ( WTF) is sending 15 young athletes to compete in the 9th Taekwondo Malaysia ( WTF) - NSC- Milo National Taekwondo Championsh­ip in Perak from today.

The team is led by its State technical chairman and chief instructor Tan Check Joon, team manager Chung Chuan Pin, foreign coach Liu Tsu Ien and Duong Thi Huynh Mai.

Also included in the squad were two internatio­nal referees from Sarawak namely Pui Jak Joon and Joseph Chang.

The 15 are to vie for medals in both the Kyorugi and Poomsae events.

Entered for the Kyorugi event are Tie Sing Da ( Male Open Fin weight category), Tie Ton Siong ( Male Open Fly weight category), Alan Chiew ( Male Open Bantam weight category), Licky Donny Ling ( Male Open feather weight category) and Jasline Jacob Kilder ( Female Open Fin weight category).

The Poomsae event, which is divided into individual, team and mix-pair categories, will be participat­ed by Nur Humaira, Monical Lo, Annatashia Ali Ding, Augustine Rudy, Emmanuel Jose Buma, Nurul Hidayah, Nur Ifa Husna, Marylyne Bungan, Christophe­r Leo and Agnes Sii.

Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak ( WTF) president Azizul Annuar Adenan said five of the athletes who competed in the Kyorugi event, namely Sing Da, Ton Siong, Chiew, Donny Ling and Jasline are eligible for the coming Malaysia Games (Sukma), also in Perak this September.

He said the Poomsae athletes Nur Ifa and Sukma 2016 mix-pair champion - Augustine and Nurul Hidayah - are also the gold medal prospects for the coming Sukma.

“I am delighted to see a few new faces being selected for this weekend’s championsh­ip, which will be a very good exposure for them.

“And I was informed that some of our Sukma athletes are currently working very hard in their final preparatio­n, undergoing intensive training in Taiwan and Vietnam at the moment,” he said.

Azizul hoped that the Sarawak exponents would try and give their very best to win medals at the national taekwondo meet.
