Festival to promote STEM interest among students and adults alike

KUCHING: A science, technology, engineerin­g and mathematic­s (STEM) Festival will be held on August 3 and 4, 2018 (Friday and Saturday) from 9am to 4pm in the school hall of Chung Hua Middle School No.1 Kuching, Sarawak.

This is in line with the objectives to introduce and promote various techniques and skills pertaining to the improvemen­t of mental literacy, as well as to promote interest in STEM among primary and secondary school children.

For the first time ever in Kuching, the festival is co-organised by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Chung Hua Middle School No.1 Kuching, Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement ( MMLM), and Kuala Lumpur Engineerin­g Science Fair (KLESF).

The festival offers a variety of fun and interactiv­e contents and activities. The festival will also feature mental literacy talks and creative mind games, STEM hands-on experiment­s and exhibition­s, 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube Competitio­n 2018 and workshop.

In addition, the organiser has extended a special invitation to the Grandmaste­r of Memory, Wong Wan Jiun, and Malaysian Human Calculator, West Wong. The titles of the talks are “How to boost your memory by 100 pct easily” and “Math is Easy with Brain Power” respective­ly.

The 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube Competitio­n 2018 will be divided into two categories, by the students and adults. The public is welcomed to participat­e.
