Refer to government info on land matters — Dennis

-

LONG PILAH, Baram: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau called on peope in Baram not to believe everything posted in the various social media platforms on matters concerning native territorial domain.

They should instead refer to informations provided by the Sarawak government.

He gave this advice when speaking at the Long Pilah Women Association’s 30th anniversary celebration here recently.

Dennis pointed out that the hottest topic in the social media the past few weeks before the tabling of The Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2018 was none other than the Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau (PMPG) or Tana Daleh (in Kayan) issue.

He said that the posts or comments are not helping at all, with the proposed draft leaked out and greatly discussed by netizens.

“Long list of comments were tossed around in the social media and unfortunately many had thought that they (comments) were the real details of the amended Land Code, which were later found to be untrue when the bill was tabled by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas,” said Dennis.

Uggah is the minister tasked by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to lead a special task force to look into ways to solve the long outstanding land issue in Sarawak.

Dennis revealed prior to the tabling of the Land Code, the special committee formed for over two years had done extensive research, held numerous meetings and dialogues with stakeholders, and only after getting all the feedback, a decision was then made that should be well received by all Sarawak native communities.

Dennis reiterated Sarawak government’s commitment in solving land issues throughout the state. He said even with the passing of the Land Code which some had claimed to be detrimental to the Orang Ulu community, the government is not forcing longhouses or settlements to put in their claim.

At the event, Dennis handed out an allocation of RM10, 000 to Long Pilah village security and development committee (JKKK), RM5,000 to the village’s women association and another RM5,000 to SK Long Pilah Parent-Teacher Association.

Also present were Long Pilah Women Association chairperson Agnes Lahung Ajeng, PBB Telang Usan Women wing leader Cr Margaret Nawan and Long Pilah headman Saging Wan Lah.
