Resident, district offices told to ensure govt projects successfully implemented

-

SIBU: Resident and district offices (R& DOs) must play an effective role in ensuring that all government projects and programmes are successfully implemented.

They must also conduct close and regular monitoring on any delayed or ‘sick’ projects, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani said.

“R& DOs can facilitate the close collaboration of various agencies for prompt resolution of project and programme implementation issues,” he said when officiating at the closing of the Chief Minister’s Department (JKM) and R& DOs Sports Carnival here yesterday.

Mohd Morshidi described R& DOs as the frontline of the state administration on the ground considering that they deal directly with the people, elected representatives and various stakeholders.

“Therefore, it is imperative that R& DOs provide excellent service delivery to their customers.

“All of us should strive to provide our services with human touch. The frontline leadership demonstrated by R& DOs will affect greatly the image and perception of the civil service at large,” he added.

He said R& DOs can provide invaluable feedback on whether the proposed projects and programmes were able to meet the needs of the local community and address local issues right from the planning stage.

Central agencies should tap on this communication channel in order to formulate better policies and plan more effective projects and programmes, he added.

He also said R& DOs must be sensitive and proactive in solving local issues through High Performance Team ( HPT) approach.

“I believe most of the local issues can be solved on the ground with excellent community engagement.

“Issues that require the decision of higher level must be brought up to the relevant higher authorities,” he said.

Earlier, Sibu Resident Charles Siaw suggested those aged 50 and above wanting to take part in such sports event in the future to undergo medical examination.

He said this following the demise of a participant after he collapsed during a badminton match on Saturday.

A total of 560 staff from 12 R& DOs and JKM competed in five events; namely table tennis, basketball, futsal, bowling and badminton.

JKM was announced as the overall winner of the carnival.
