Smooth showcase of pomp, pageantry at Warriors’ Day rehearsal

-

PUTRAJAYA: Steeped in tradition and pageantry, the full rehearsal for the Warriors’ Day celebration went on without a hitch at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here yesterday.

Forty- six officers and 823 personnel of different ranks from both the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) took part in the rehearsal.

Among the highlights of the celebration, which would be held at the same venue on Tuesday, are a pantomime performance called ‘Operasi Iblis 1971’, and ‘ Demi Pertiwiku’ – a poetry recital.

Operasi Iblis will relive the heroic struggles of Capt Mohana Chandran, who fought to his last drop of blood.

The performance is based on an operation by the same name launched by Second Infantry Brigade Headquarters in 1971, following the presence of communist terrorists in Korbu Forest Area, Sungai Siput and Tanah Hitam, Perak on May 31, 1971.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V is expected to grace the parade. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, ministers, dignitaries, military top brass and senior government officials are also scheduled to attend.

Warriors’ Day is celebrated on July 31 each year to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of the national security forces to protect the nation’s sovereignty.

ATM and PDRM take turns in organising the parade. The event is being managed by ATM this year. — Bernama
