Bukit Goram rep praised for having a heart for the people

-

KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat has received praise from local community leader Penghulu Abang Hamzah Bolhassan for “having a heart for the people”.

He said Jamit had always demonstrated his concern for the welfare of the constituents regardless of social status and where they are.

“Jamit is an assemblyman who takes the constituents’ interest at heart. Whenever, he is around, he would move around to visit his constituents to meet them and find out their priority and needs.

“He always contacts community leaders because he wants to know the issues on the ground,” he said.

Abang Hamzah cited a recent case when Jamit quickly responded when told of a delay in the construction of the proposed steel bridge at Nanga Sungai Kapit.

“He followed up by meeting with the contractor to find out the work progress and the reason for the delay,” the penghulu said.

Construction of the steel bridge was earlier delayed mainly because it was initially to be built on an unsuitable site, due to wet weather and high water level that affected piling works.

Now with the dry weather and the low water level the contractor is able to speed up the project.

Jamit said the contractor had assured him that he would increase his number of workers at the site to complete the project sometime in late October as the main pillar and column had been done.

Accompanying Jamit to the site were Pemanca Wasli Nor and staff from his Bukit Goram service centre Edward Manggah and Cocham Alwi.

Work to construct the bridge commenced last year.

It is built adjacent to the existing suspension bridge to improve connectivity between Kampung Baru at the end of Jalan Suhaili and Kampung Muhibah Bletih along Jalan Bletih. The project is funded by Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
