‘Use innovation centre to venture into digital economy’

-

SARIKEI: Sarikei folk are urged to use the facilities and services of the Sarikei Innovation Centre ( SIC) to venture into the digital economy.

Sarikei Resident Mohd Junaidi Mohidin said this is in line with the Sarawak government’s aspirations to transform into a high-income digital economy thriving on the advancements of information and communication technology.

“We can do online businesses from places like Sarikei, Pakan, and anywhere else. The most beautiful fact about digital businesses is that we are competing for unlimited opportunities across the globe,” he said when opening a digital entrepreneur workshop at SIC on Saturday.

“In conventional entrepreneurship, a strategic location is one of the factors to be taken into consideration. E- commerce enables us to operate from anywhere as long as there is Internet coverage.”

Junaidi called on local online entrepreneurs to take the initiative to promote their products globally.

Since it began last September, SIC has organised 11 programmes that have benefitted some 500 participants.
